Authorities in Texas are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck a pregnant 22-year-old woman this week as she was crossing a road.
The woman, Diann Ford, gave birth to a healthy baby before dying, according to the San Marcos Police Department.
Ford was walking home from her job at a Long John Silver’s restaurant in San Marcos late Tuesday when she was struck while crossing a highway access road. The driver immediately fled.
Ford, who was 37 weeks pregnant, was taken to a hospital in Austin.
On Wednesday, she gave birth to a baby girl. On Thursday, Ford died.
Ford was able to describe the vehicle that struck her as dark with extra-bright headlights, said Sgt. Christopher Tureaud in a statement. No other information on the car or driver was available.
Kris Jaccard, Ford’s boss, told the San Antonio Express-News that she was a model employee and had been excited about her future child.
“She had picked out a name,” Jaccard said. “She knew she was having a girl.”
