Here’s another round-up of sites that have commented on our work here at the Times’ Opinion Manufacturing Division.
In a post that revisits the controversial chimp cartoon published in the New York Post earlier this week, Natch Greyes (a Democrat running for Senate in 2020) looks at the First Amendment rights that surround the cartoon that has sparked a nationwide debate over its implied racist message. He links to a blog post by Michael McGough that also examines the racist undertones of the cartoon.
And did Sarah Palin finally create change? Kind of. It seems Patt Morrison’s outrage over the name of Palin’s favorite store did ... and the blogosphere has responded with both praise and catcalls. One example of the former: The Sexist’s Amanda Hess “Daily Palin” post sarcastically tells readers how to buy like Palin by referencing Patt’s post on the name change. And one from the latter category: the blog 24ahead calls it ‘Patt Morrison’s greatest journalistic accomplishment.’
In a post over at The Real Gun Guys, Yuri Orlov wasn’t too pleased with our support for Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, who replaced disgraced Sheriff Michael S. Carona. We’re not too surprised by his displeasure -- Hutchens’ first announcements as sheriff was that she would systematically review the county’s active gun permits and require holders to have a reason for having them.
And were back on Cab Drolley’s radar! ‘Diane’s’ post questions Obama’s “backpedaling” when it comes to torture, renditions and military commission trials. She referenced a Times’ editorial in which we examined the mixed messages of the new administration and urged ‘Obama the president’ to be careful about reviving Bush’s anti-terror policies.
At Mondoweiss, Philip Weiss posts excerpts from a Times’ editorial “Israel’s identity crisis,” which compares Israel to the U.S. in the 1940s to highlight the reality Palestinians face inside Israel.
Finally, in the land beyond cyberspace, Wolf Blitzer referenced a Times editorial on the stimulus package when interviewing Prime Minister Stephen Harper on CNN’s The Situation Room.
