Among the alumni invited to the Kings’ season opener Saturday night at Staples Center was Jamie Storr, who ranks fourth among the team’s goaltenders in games played at 205, from the 1994-95 season through 2002-03.
Storr, 33, retired a few months ago after spending three years playing in Germany. He moved back to southern California, where he runs a hockey school and is the goaltending coach for the Junior Kings. ‘My kids are in school and we wanted to be in one place and not traveling all the time,’ he said.
Storr hasn’t lost his appreciation for good goaltending, and he likes what he’s seen of the current occupant of the Kings’ net.
‘Jonathan Quick is the real thing,’ Storr said. ‘I’m interested to see how he handles playing a full season.’
As are we all.
