University finds itself in the exact position it was last season -- a 7-4 record going into the City Invitational quarterfinals. Now the Wildcats want to learn if they are making progress.

Last season, the Wildcats convincingly beat an average Franklin team in the first round, 45-7. On Wednesday they get a different Franklin (8-3) team-- a more seasoned squad led by hot-throwing quarterback Adrian Diaz (2,451 yards and 24 touchdowns passing), and a motivated opponent wanting some payback.

‘We definitely have our hands full,’ University Coach E.C. Robinson said.

But Robinson also thinks the Wildcats are good enough to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2004, when they lost to South Gate. ‘We’ve been playing well lately, and are able to do some things now -- like run the ball -- that we couldn’t do earlier. If we’re going to make the semifinals, this is the year to do it.’
