USA Today ensured a matchup of its No. 1 and No. 2 boys’ basketball teams this week by vaulting Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict’s into the No. 2 spot past fellow unbeaten Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep.

That means the top two teams in the country will meet at 9 p.m. Saturday when top-ranked Mater Dei plays host to St. Benedict’s in the featured game of the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei’s Meruelo Athletic Center.

It’s one of four games in the Saturday evening session involving nationally ranked teams. No. 12 Compton Dominguez will play No. 10 Concord De La Salle at 7 p.m.; No. 19 Fairfax will play Chicago Young at 5:30 p.m.; and No. 8 Westchester will play Seattle Rainier Beach at 4 p.m.

Young and Rainier Beach were nationally ranked earlier this year, but Rainier Beach recently lost three consecutive games to fall out of the rankings and Young has dropped out as well.

There is also a notable matchup of girls’ teams on Friday when undefeated Mater Dei, ranked No. 1 in the Southland by The Times, plays No. 3 Cajon at 7:30 p.m.
