Boys’ basketball: Taft cruises to first-round win

Taft, seeded No. 3 in City Section Divsion I, cruised to a 104-39 victory over Gardena. Taft started the game leading, 24-0. Michael Williams scored 27 points and Justin Hawkins had 19.

In another Division I opener, Tyler Honeycutt scored 12 points and had 16 rebounds in Sylmar’s 72-64 victory over Birmingham.
