Tyler Matzek of Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley is off to a terrific start in 2009, reinforcing his reputation as the Southland’s No. 1 pitching prospect.
He threw a no-hitter last week against Aliso Niguel, and his next pitching assignment comes at home on Wednesday against Dana Hills in a South Coast League game.
On the season, he’s 3-0 and has allowed one run in 20 innings, with 21 strikeouts and six walks. He has given up just six hits. And he’s also batting .583.
Capistrano Valley is 6-2 overall after a double-header sweep of Riverside Poly on Saturday.
The scouts should be out en force on Wednesday for his latest pitching appearance.
