Kevin Johnson, a 6-foot-10 junior center who played last season at Gardena Serra, officially enrolled at Woodland Hills Taft today.
Why is that important? Because Taft now must be considered a co-equal with Westchester, the defending City Section and state Division I champion when it comes to talent.
The Toreadors’ second string would probably be good enough to win the West Valley League this winter. The Toreadors could have a starting lineup of Texas-bound De’Andre Daniels, USC-bound Bryce Jones, plus Jordan Gathers, a transfer from Loyola, highly regarded sophomore Landon Drew and rising junior Spencer Dinwiddie.
Then there’s Pierce Williams, a forward who looked terrific this summer, plus Brandon Perry, a 6-foot-5 sophomore transfer from Canyon Country Canyon, and guard Sam Natt, who transferred in last year from Dorsey.
Good luck to any City team that’s going to try to prevent a Westchester-Taft championship game in March at the Galen Center.
