Girls’ basketball: Long Beach Poly’s reign threatened

BAKERSFIELD--Long Beach Poly has won four consecutive state titles, but there might not be a fifth if the latter portion of the second quarter is any indication.

El Dorado Hills Oak Ridge outsmarted and out-toughed the Jackrabbits in taking a 29-23 halftime lead, with senior forward Sara James putting on a stunning display with 20 first-half points.

James outscored the Jackrabbits in the second quarter, 13-10, scoring on an array of driving layups, free throws and s short running jumper.

Tajanae Winston has nine points for Poly, which has not lost since a setback against Brea Olinda on Dec. 22.
