Killer Whale Gives Birth at Sea World

A captive killer whale gave birth Sunday at Sea World, and the baby was reported to be healthy, a spokeswoman at the marine park said.
Park spokeswoman Jackie O’Connor declined to release any information about the birth other than to say the baby appeared to be in good shape.
“We’re not prepared to make a statement,” she said Sunday night. She added that the park would release more details about the birth on today.
It was the first killer whale birth at Sea World’s San Diego facility. Last September, a 350-pound killer whale was born at Sea World in Orlando, Fla. Sea World also operates an aquatic park near Cleveland, Ohio.
There have been five killer whales born at Marineland in Rancho Palos Verdes since 1977.
However, none of the killer whales born in captivity has survived.
