There were twice as many stabbings at maximum-security Folsom state prison in 1985 than in the previous year, prison officials reported, blaming racial gang wars and the violence of many of the facilities’ inmates for the upsurge. The prison had 216 stabbings last year, seven of them fatal, compared to 108 stabbings in 1984 with six of them fatal, a prison spokesman, Lt. T. J. Smith, said. The prison, 25 miles east of Sacramento, has 3,200 inmates.
