ORPHANS OF THE STORM

In the list of Pix of ‘86, you may not notice some movies that we described last year at this same time, same place. They are on painful hold or dearly departed. One film “fell through the cracks” when a classics division folded. (A studio publicist didn’t recognize the title--but called back later: “I found a secretary who remembers that one.”) On one film with a controversial subject matter, the director and studio are still arguing over how to edit it. One comedy with two major stars and a well-known director was “shelved” (killed) after disastrous test screenings. Pat H. Broeske will relate some of the sad stories next week in Calendar.
