Man Slain, Teen Injured in Holdup

A San Diego man was killed and a teen-ager was wounded when they were confronted by two gun-wielding robbers on a sidewalk in Logan Heights, police reported Saturday.
The incident occurred at 8:10 p.m. Friday at 32nd and Market streets, where Francisco Ortega, 26, and his unidentified 16-year-old companion were standing. They were approached by two young men and within moments, gunshots were fired, police said.
Ortega, shot in the chest, walked about three blocks from the shooting scene before collapsing on the sidewalk. He was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The wounded teen-ager walked several blocks to 32nd and Imperial Avenue, where he was found by police. He was was taken to Physician’s & Surgeon’s Hospital. Officials would release neither his name nor condition.
