Christ College Defeats UCSD, 89-63

Derwin Appleberry scored 40 points and had 15 rebounds to lead Christ College Irvine (12-4) to a 89-83 nonconference win over UC San Diego Thursday in Irvine.

Appleberry’s big game offset a 40-point performance by UC San Diego’s Greg Kamansky. Kamansky, a guard, had 25 points in the second half to lead a Triton comeback. UCSD (8-9) trailed, 68-46, with 10 minutes remaining, but with Kamansky’s shooting, came within four points of the Eagles, 83-79, with 1:40 left.

Brian Beal added 18 points for Christ College. Brian Backens had 14 points for UCSD.
