Methane Leak in Carson Is Plugged
A methane leak at a Carson well was finally closed off by firefighters and technicians at about noon Friday, more than 18 hours after it erupted, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman said.
The Dominguez Energy Co. well at 1556 E. Victoria St. was being dismantled at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday when it began spewing gas 50 feet in the air under pressure up to 600 feet a square inch. Crews forced water and sludge into the well and used liquid nitrogen in their battle to stop the leak.
No one was injured.
