Gates Date to Era of Crockett and Bowie

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. — Archeologists have discovered a pair of wooden gates they believe may have been part of the Alamo’s original exterior.
The gates were found in 1984, when a university archivist found houses built from Alamo scrap wood in the area, but news of the discovery was kept quiet for security reasons.
The Alamo, a Franciscan mission at San Antonio, was the scene of a siege and massacre of Texans by Mexican troops in 1836. Among those who died in the fighting were frontiersmen Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie.
