A Louisville Rooter Is Fired by Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Andy Dumstorf, a part-time student employee in the University of Kentucky’s sports information office, learned that it doesn’t pay to root for the University of Louisville.
Dumstorf, who is a junior journalism major from Louisville, was fired last week because, as one official said, “He made no secret of his love of the University of Louisville basketball team.”
Russell Rice, the school’s sports information director, would not give the reason for the firing, other than saying, “The only comment I have is that it’s an internal affair.”
Dumstorf signed the form for his release from the program only after a “to UK” was added to a phrase that read he “admitted allegiance to UL.” Dumstorf wanted to show that he was also a Kentucky fan. The form release also was signed by Athletic Director Cliff Hagan and Rice.
