Congratulations to Bill Hughes for his outspoken “High Marks for Europe” (Jan. 5). It’s about time that tourists and travel writers speak out about long-distance driving on tours, lack of private facilities on coaches and, most important, the unwillingness of most tour operators to stop smoking on tour coaches.
As a tour operator who started as a tour director, I have experienced all these problems and am trying to do something about them.
Again, thank you on behalf of all tour operators trying to offer Americans a positive alternative.
