NEW YORK — NBC’s “Peter the Great” had to bow to Joan Collins and “Sins” in the war of the miniseries, according to the Nielsen ratings released today.
A.C. Nielsen’s 12-city overnight figures had shown “Peter the Great” conquering CBS’ “Sins” on Sunday. (Story in Part VI, Page 1.)
But the final figures for the week of Jan. 27 released today showed the first installment of “Peter” with a 19.0 audience share against 19.7 for the first part of “Sins.”
ABC, which introduced its weekly “Disney Movie” Sunday and followed it with James Bond’s “Octopussy,” averaged a 16.2 rating for the night.
“Peter the Great,” is a $26-million, eight-hour epic starring Maximilian Schell. “Sins” is a heavily promoted seven-hour miniseries starring Collins as a rags-to-riches publishing empress.
Overnight ratings measure the percentage of homes with TV in that area tuned to a particular broadcast. The weekly ratings are based on a larger sampling of homes nationwide.
