GENEVA — The World Council of Churches today released a report on what it called “shocking” human rights violations in the Philippines under President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
The report was released just two days before a presidential election in which Marcos is hard-pressed by opposition candidate Corazon Aquino. The 163-page report includes detailed testimony on killings, disappearances and 81 cases of torture, most listed as occurring in the last two years.
