Santa Barbara Sweeps CSUN Volleyball in Three Straight

UC Santa Barbara’s men’s volleyball team, playing without two starters, swept Cal State Northridge, 15-5, 15-11, 15-12, in a California Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. match at Santa Barbara on Friday.
Jamie Mearns led the Gauchos with 17 kills and a .583 hitting percentage. Santa Barbara hit .348 as team.
Northridge led only once in the entire match, 7-6, in game three. The Gauchos scored the next three points, but Northridge came back and tied the score at 12. Santa Barbara scored the next three points to complete the sweep.
It was the second time this season the Gauchos (8-4, 1-3) defeated Northridge (4-7, 1-3).
Chuck English led the Matadors with 17 kills, but committed 10 errors and hit just .194. Ed DeGrasse played only in the third game and had nine kills and .571 percentage.
Northridge committed 27 total errors in the three games and hit just .206 as a team.
