Philadelphia’s Andrew Toney, Out Most of Season, Is Hurting Again

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia 76ers guard Andrew Toney, who has missed most of this season with feet and ankle injuries, may be sidelined again.
Toney, who had stress fractures of both his feet and bone spurs on one ankle, did not dress for Philadelphia’s 153-133 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday night because his feet are hurting him again.
“We’re back to square one with Andrew,” Philadelphia coach Matt Guokas said. “It’s sore. He can’t go on it. He can’t make the cuts.”
Guokas said Toney would rest until the beginning of next week, when he will be examined by Dr. Joseph Torg, who diagnosed Toney’s problem last fall.
Toney returned to the active roster last week and played in two games, scoring eight points against the Detroit Pistons Saturday night but missing all five of his shots in brief action against the Milwaukee Bucks Monday night.
“After the game in Detroit, he never recovered from that,” Guokas said, adding it was too early to say if Toney will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
Guokas did not dismiss the possibility, however.
“It wouldn’t surprise any of us if he’s not ready to play,” he said.
Toney played in only three games at the beginning of the season before undergoing surgery on his feet.
