“The Normal Heart,” Larry Kramer’s AIDS crisis play, is ending its L.A. run this weekend. But its life as a film may just be starting.

Oscar-winner Kramer (“Women in Love”) has finished a script and said that a film project is in the works. Would the play’s star, Richard Dreyfuss, segue to the movie? “I’ll have to plead the Fifth,” said Kramer.

A spokesman for Joseph Papp’s Public Theatre, producers of “Normal Heart,” said the William Morris Agency has been trying to package a film deal for “several months,” but could not confirm or deny that a deal has been set. A William Morris secretary responded to an inquiry with a curt, “We can’t say anything about this right now.”
