Construction will begin next month on the $25-million Koreatown Plaza enclosed mall retail project on a three-acre site bounded by Western and Oxford avenues and 9th and San Marino streets.
Developed by Korean Shopping Center Inc., and designed by Gruen Associates, Los Angeles, the 480,000-square-foot center will feature an international food court, specialty shops, restaurants, an Oriental supermarket, financial institutions and a five-level parking structure for 700 cars.
C.L. Peck/Stuart Ahn, a joint venture, is the general contractor. Round columns, common in Korean architecture, will be clad in granite, and frame portions of the shopping center’s entry, according to Ki Suh Park of Gruen, partner in charge of the project.
