An X-rated videotape was shown in court Friday in the case of a Lemon Grove adult bookstore owner charged with distributing obscene matter.
“The Taming of Rebecca,” an hourlong videotape seized at the Lemon Grove Video Exchange, was viewed by San Diego Municipal Court Judge Patricia Cowett, court officials, and the owner, Donald Wiener, 48. Five more adult videotapes are expected to be shown Monday, when Wiener’s preliminary hearing continues.
The tapes were seized Sept. 25 in a raid by sheriff’s vice squad detectives at the store, 7656 Broadway. Deputies also confiscated material at another store Wiener operates, Chuck’s Books, in National City. The prosecution contends that the tapes are obscene because they depict actual torture, bondage and urination during sex acts.
Wiener’s son, Steven, 24, and three clerks have been charged with a misdemeanor of exhibiting obscene matter; they will be tried separately. Donald Wiener’s charge is a felony because he has a prior conviction on the same offense, a prosecutor said.
