A 19-year-old high school student from Lindsay, Calif., was killed Saturday night when the car in which he was riding crashed down an embankment and overturned in eastern San Diego County, authorities said.
Pronounced dead at the scene was William Scott White, a student at Lindsay High School.
The driver of the car, John Mellos, 45, of El Cajon, was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Sunday.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday when the driver, heading eastbound on Willow Glen Drive in the Dehesa area, lost control of his car on a curve and it went over the side, plunging 150 feet before landing on its roof, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed.
