OCEANSIDE — Two people died Monday when their cars collided in a four-car pile-up on Oceanside Boulevard, authorities said.
Robert Frank Moor, 52, of Vista, died at the scene. William Isadore Kirstein, 79, of Fallbrook died a short time later at Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside, according to Deputy San Diego County Coroner Robert Engel.
An Oceanside police spokesman said Kirstein was driving east on Oceanside Boulevard at 1:45 p.m. when he attempted to pass a slower vehicle. Kirstein crossed over the center divider and sideswiped a westbound car, then collided head-on with the car driven by Moor, the spokesman said.
Just before the collision, Moor braked, but his car was hit from behind by a pickup truck, forcing it into the path of Kirstein’s car, Engel said.
The drivers of the sideswiped car and the pickup truck were not injured.
