NHL Roundup : Ciccarelli and North Stars Are Back in Business, 8-5

A season that started tragically for the Minnesota North Stars’ Dino Ciccarelli is turning out just fine.
Ciccarelli, scoreless in the first six weeks of the season while his young daughter was hospitalized after being burned in a household accident, scored three goals in the second period Monday night to lead the North Stars to an 8-5 victory over the Red Wings at Detroit, raising his season total to 31 goals.
But Ciccarelli had plenty of help. Brian Bellows added a pair of goals and Neal Broten had three assists, all in the second period.
The win moved Minnesota (29-27-9) into second place in the Norris Division, one point ahead of the idle St. Louis Blues.
Ciccarelli said that after his daughter was hurt: “I wasn’t the same type of player that I could be. . . . It was in the back of my mind all the time.”
Toronto 6, Winnipeg 1--At Toronto, Wendel Clark became the highest-scoring rookie in Maple Leafs’ history with two goals, giving him 29 for the season.
The win was the first for Toronto over Winnipeg since Dec. 19, 1981, a drought where the Leafs went 0-13-1. The Jets have won just seven of their last 26 games.
