Greenpeace Yacht Returned by French

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — France has returned a yacht it confiscated from the environmentalist group Greenpeace during anti-nuclear demonstrations in the South Pacific last year, a spokeswoman for the group said Tuesday.
The French demanded no compensation for the return of the protest yacht Vega except for freight costs, Greenpeace coordinator Elaine Shaw said. The 43-foot Canadian-registered yacht was seized last Oct. 24 as it entered a 12-mile exclusion zone around the Mururoa Atoll, near Tahiti, in an attempt to stop an imminent underground nuclear test sponsored by the French government.
