College Baseball : Faryniarz Pitches Aztecs to 4-1 Victory

SAN DIEGO — San Diego State’s Tony Faryniarz (2-0) pitched a complete game Friday night to lead the Aztecs to a 4-1 nonconference win over Cal State Los Angeles at Smith Field.
The Aztecs scored all the runs they needed in the third inning. Eric Woods opened the inning with a walk and was sacrificed to second. Tom LeVasseur drove Woods home with his double to left, and advanced to third on an error. LeVasseur then scored on a wild pitch to put SDSU (8-4) on top, 2-0. Polverini (2-3) was credited with the loss for the Golden Eagles (4-12).
In other games:
UC San Diego 6, Westmont 5--Dan DiMascio and Glen Turnipseed each hit two-run doubles Friday to highlight a five-run second inning and lead the Tritons (6-9-1) to a win at home.
United States International University 1-8, UC Santa Barbara 4-5--Mark Walters hit a two-run homer, and Bob Esquerra hit a solo shot to lead USIU (5-17) to a win in the second game and a split of a doubleheader at UCSB.
