A South-Central Los Angeles gang member has been charged with attempted murder in a gang rape in which four suspects are alleged to have sexually assaulted a 26-year-old woman, tossed her into a trash dumpster and thrown a flaming Christmas tree on top of her. Alfred Sheppard Scott, 22, is charged with eight felony counts including rape in concert and kidnaping in connection with the January incident, which resulted in the victim--due to injuries suffered in the fire--being forced to have her left hand, left foot and right breast amputated. Two other suspects, Cedric Harmon and Mark Green, both 17 years old, will be tried as adults, a judge has ruled. The fourth suspect, who is 15 years old, will be tried as a juvenile.
