Pico Rivera : No Library Involvement

The City Council has decided not to establish its own library or build a third branch on the city’s north side. Currently, the city’s two libraries on Mines and Serapis avenues are operated by Los Angeles County.
Some residents, including Councilman James Patronite, have questioned whether the city might be better served if it ran the libraries. Residents in the city’s northern neighborhoods also have complained about having to travel across town to use the libraries.
But such a move, commissioners decided, would be too costly. The commission estimated it would cost close to $250,000 a year to run the existing libraries.
