Gov. George Deukmejian has named a new management team to operate the Administration’s troubled toxic wastes cleanup program.
He appointed veteran state official Alexander Cunningham as chief deputy director for toxics management in the Department of Health Services. David Willis, a Department of Finance budget manager, was picked as Cunningham’s deputy.
At his new post, subject to Senate confirmation, Cunningham, a Republican, succeeds veteran health department administrator John Ramey, who has been serving as interim chief of the toxics program since late last year. Cunningham has been Deukmejian’s deputy director of water resources. He also served under former Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. in various posts.
