Ten people were arrested on the evening of St. Patrick’s Day for driving under the influence of alcohol at two sobriety checkpoints set up by Los Angeles police. Officers stopped 755 drivers and arrested three suspected drunk drivers at a checkpoint at 2nd and Alameda streets downtown, said Sgt. Tom Hatter. One person was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded handgun. In the San Fernando Valley, a police checkpoint at Woodman Avenue and Sylvan Street stopped 1,100 drivers. Of 11 people given sobriety tests, seven were booked on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
