Shell and seven other oil companies petitioned to have a price-fixing suit moved to U.S. District Court in Los Angeles from the state court where it was filed last month. The suit, filed by the City of Long Beach and State of California, accused the firms of conspiring to depress the price of crude oil pumped from the Long Beach area. Similar suits involving the same parties have been thrown out in the past by the federal court in Los Angeles.
