Former Chicago Judge Gets 12-Year Term in Greylord Case

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Former Cook County Circuit Judge Wayne W. Olson was sentenced Friday to 12 years in prison, one of the stiffest sentences in the federal Operation Greylord investigation of courtroom corruption in Chicago.
Olson, 54, who pleaded guilty to mail fraud, racketeering and extortion last July, is the fifth current or former circuit judge to be convicted in Greylord. Olson reportedly received at least $9,000 in kickbacks from attorney James J. Costello, who was sentenced to eight years, for steering cases to him.
During a presentation that included taped conversations, the government outlined what it called “the worst kind of official corruption” in Olson’s courtroom.
