A 1948 U.S. Army list of suspected World War II criminals names former U.N. Secretary General Kurt Waldheim as a suspected Nazi wanted by Yugoslavia for complicity in murder, the World Jewish Congress said. The group, which has been actively probing Waldheim’s war record, said the document came from the Army’s Combined Registry of War Criminals and Security Suspects and was found last week in public archives in Washington. Waldheim, a leading candidate in the May 5 Austrian presidential election, has denied any Nazi affiliations.
