City Seeks Insurance Coverage: On Tuesday, the city will lose its liability insurance coverage. City Manager Kevin O’Rourke said the city will not renew its insurance policies because the coverage options available to Buena Park and other cities are too limited in scope and too expensive. Buena Park is now looking for coverage, O’Rourke said. The city could have tried to join a group of cities that pool their money and provide each other with coverage, but that option would provide too little coverage at too high a cost, he said. Seal Beach, Fountain Valley, Orange, Fullerton, Villa Park and Costa Mesa recently have turned to various types of self-insurance. Brea and Newport Beach are considering alternatives to conventional liability insurance coverage.
