Garden Grove : Cement Spill Closes Freeway Temporarily
- Share via
A suspicious-looking spill of white powder over a 100-foot stretch of the Garden Grove Freeway prompted officials to close a portion of the thoroughfare Saturday morning until hazardous-material experts determined that it was only dry cement.
The cement mix created a cloud of dust in the westbound lanes of the freeway, west of Euclid Street, in Garden Grove, said California Highway Patrol dispatcher Joe David.
A one-mile stretch of the westbound lanes between the Euclid Street off-ramp and the Brookhurst Street on-ramp was closed at 8:56 a.m., David said.
Traffic, which was light, was allowed back onto the freeway at 10:03 a.m., he said. The CHP does not know who dropped the cement mix onto the freeway.
