Edwards’ Foul Shots Help Clippers Beat Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — Michael Cage and Benoit Benjamin each scored 21 points as the Clippers defeated the Sacramento Kings, 112-103, Saturday night.
The Clippers led, 105-101, when a foul sent Franklin Edwards to the free-throw line with 22 seconds left. Edwards hit both shots and returned to the line two seconds later and hit another free throw after a technical foul was called on the Kings’ Eddie Johnson.
The Clippers erased a 56-50 halftime deficit with a 12-1 streak in 3 1/2 minutes of the third period. Kurt Nimphius scored 8 of the 12 points that gave the Clippers a 62-57 advantage with 8:24 left in the quarter.
Three baskets by Edwards and two by Benjamin during a three-minute span gave the Clippers a seven-point lead with 3:20 left.
LaSalle Thompson led the Kings (33-42) with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
The Clippers (28-47) remained tied for fourth place in the National Basketball Assn.’s Pacific Division. The Clippers will play at Utah Tuesday night, then face the Jazz again on Wednesday night at the Sports Arena.
