VERO BEACH, Fla. — Pedro Guerrero, the heart of a Los Angeles Dodgers lineup favored to win the National League West, today suffered a knee injury that could keep him out of the lineup for three months.
The Dodgers announced that Guerrero suffered a ruptured patella tendon below the left knee in an exhibition game against Atlanta and said the left fielder’s leg was placed in a cast. He was scheduled to return to Los Angeles with the ballclub tonight and faces surgery. The injury occurred in the first inning when Guerrero slid into third base on the front end of a double steal. It appeared his spikes caught in the dirt.
