Trevino Puts the Masters in Its Place

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Lee Trevino has never won the Masters, but it’s not such a big deal. It isn’t even one of the top three golf tournaments anymore, and barely in the top four.
That’s what he said here Tuesday, anyway.
“It’s a major in your eyes,” Trevino said after a reporter had referred to his chances of winning one of the majors that had eluded him.
The Tournament of Champions, for one, has a bigger and better field than the Masters, in Trevino’s opinion.
“I put it fourth,” he said of the Masters. “The U.S. Open is first. I’d put the British Open second. I’d put the PGA third and I’d put Augusta tied with the TPC for fourth.”
