All-Women Group Drops Polar Effort

From Reuters

A Franco-Canadian team attempting to become the first all-female group to conquer the North Pole has given up after making no progress due to moving ice, expedition leaders said Tuesday.

In radio messages broadcast to their base on Norway’s Arctic islands of Spitzbergen, the women said their position was exactly the same as when they started a month ago. “We’ll soon have to ask for parking permits,” one said.

An original group of six began the 670-mile trek on Feb. 22. Two, suffering from frostbite, gave up a week later.
