A woman and her 3-year-old daughter who were shot several times and thrown from a moving car onto a North Hollywood street remained hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday.
Police said they have yet to learn the motive for the shootings, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the 7200 block of Case Avenue. No arrests have been made.
The woman, identified by police as Martha Velasco, 27, was shot once in the upper chest and once in the neck, and was reported in “ultra-critical” condition at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.
The child, identified as Cathy Velasco, remained in a coma at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. Police said she was shot twice, once in the forehead.
Police were attempting to locate the woman’s husband, but a spokesman said he is not considered a suspect in the shooting.
Several Case Avenue residents said they saw a car race down the street and stop abruptly before the woman and the child were shoved into the middle of the roadway. None of the residents reported hearing gunshots.
