Masters champion Jack Nicklaus, who had a 72 in the first round, shot a 73 and was at 145. He needed a birdie on No. 18 to make the cut for today’s third round on the TPC course at The Woodlands, Tex.

“Most of my shots were routine,” Peete said. “I missed one green on the front side. I’m somewhat of a perfectionist. I want to hit every shot perfect. I’m just trying to hit more precise shots.”

Lori Garbacz shot an eight-under-par 64 that enabled her to break away from the pack and take a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the $200,000 S&H; women’s tournament at St. Petersburg, Fla.
