A crowd of 73,801 University of Tennessee football fans turned out Saturday night in 91,249-seat Neyland Stadium to watch the Orange defeat the White, 24-14, in the Volunteers’ annual spring game.
Officials of the Guinness Book of World Records were on hand at the game to verify the crowd count as a world record for an intrasquad scrimmage, surpassing the University of Minnesota’s claim with a crowd of 42,000 in 1984.
Tennessee had distributed more than 200,000 free tickets to the game and offered such prizes as a Sugar Bowl trip, hams and free newspaper subscriptions to those fans in attendance.
