CAMP PENDLETON — One U.S. Marine was killed and another was injured Sunday night when the motorcycle they were riding spun out of control on Camp Pendleton’s main thoroughfare, a base spokesman said.
Gunnery Sgt. John Farrell said the motorcycle’s passenger, Pfc. Randy Proctor, 19, of Corinna, Maine, was killed. The driver, Pfc. Steven Sullivan, 22, of Chester, Pa., suffered a broken bone in his lower back and is expected to be released from the base hospital today. Both of the Marines were assigned to the 9th Communications Battalion, 1st Marine Amphibious Force.
The accident occurred about 9 p.m. on Vandergrift Boulevard, near the center of the base. The Marine Corps is investigating.
