Drug Abuse Center Receives Grant

New Start, a Santa Monica-based, nonprofit drug-abuse counseling center, has received $5,000 from PennCorp Financial Inc.
The company has contributed a total of $10,000 to New Start during the past year.
The funds will be used to help underwrite costs of on-campus counseling at junior high schools in Santa Monica and to contact youth groups.
New Start also receives funding from the city of Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, project Heavy West and other private donations. It was founded in 1974.
