Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher became the first British leader to visit Israel since its independence 38 years ago. Arriving amid wide security precautions, Thatcher said that during her three-day visit, she will discuss with Prime Minister Shimon Peres how Britain can help bring about “peace with security for Israel and for the other peoples of the region.”
