Eight people have been indicted on charges of conspiring to smuggle marijuana into the United States after the seizure of a ship carrying more than 17 tons of the drug from Thailand, U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello announced in San Francisco. Russoniello said the drugs had an estimated street value of $33 million to $35 million. Coast Guard Adm. John D. Costello said “intelligence information” led Coast Guard officials to the ship, the Panamco II, about 750 miles northwest of San Francisco.
